MOTORCYCLE TRIP CHECKLIST
I have to pack light and smart - all I've got is a
tank bag, a set of throw-over ballistic nylon saddlebags, and a sleeping bag /
tent / air mattress setup that straps on behind me. I generally alternate
camping 2 nights (at a facility with showers!), then a motel 1 night. If the
wife is along... we motel. NO WAY I could carry camping gear for 2. (My wife
is reluctant to go, generally, because she can't bear the thought of not
bringing along 4 or 5 pairs of shoes.)
Here's my basic list. When I'm planning a
trip, I consider destination, time on the road, anticipated weather, etc., and
modify as seems reasonable. (I'd NEVER presume to remember everything if I work
without a list!) Also, as I pack, I like to note where it’s being packed -
TB-tank bag, SB-saddle bag, etc. (See my Gear Notes for more specific
information about my gear choices.)

NOTES
1. CLOTHES – At least 1 extra pair of pants & shirt. One pair of underwear and
socks for each 2 days, to a maximum of 2 extra (6 days). Swim suit, if a pool is
in the cards. Layering is good, for variations in temperature. I prefer
long-sleeved shirts for riding, even in hot weather. The disadvantage of being a
little “warmer” is easily offset by less exposure to bright sunlight.
